Rainy days are confusing

I woke up this morning and it was pouring down rain, so in my mind I'm thinking I'll probably head to school only to find out it's cancelled again.  This time, though, I'll go in shorts and change if I find out there will be class.

At about 7:15 I was surprised Lauren hadn't come to see if I was ready to go yet, so I went and knocked on her door and she didn't answer.  I tried the handle and it was locked, meaning she was probably asleep because we don't have keys to lock our doors when we leave.  Okay, now I'm confused.  She's been here before so I assume she knows better than I do whether or not it's worth it to go to school, but I thought we were supposed to go ahead and go no matter what.

I texted Olivia to find out what she was doing, and then texted the principal to see if I was supposed to go.  The principal's response: "If students show up we have school."  I grab my rain jacket and am walking out the door when Olivia shows up (apparently she had run out of texts) and says that she's not going to worry about going, and she's heard that the public schools are closed so we probably should be too.  It's about 7:30 by now, the time that school starts for grade one.  I go ahead and stay at the Jungle Barn, and as it stops raining I start feeling less sure.  I went over to Olivia's.  She was home but Carla and Elizabeth had gone to school, because apparently school IS in session, but Elizabeth had texted Olivia not to worry about going because there are hardly any students.  Teressa is the interim principal and I guess communicates with the Filipinos about school, while Elizabeth is in charge of informing the volunteer teachers.

Here I am feeling guilty, because I never got a text saying I didn't have to go, and I imagine my co-teacher just wondering where in the world I am.  Finally, at about 10:00, I looked at my phone and realize I had somehow missed the text from Elizabeth saying I too didn't need to worry about going.  Definitely breathed a sigh of relief.  No more guilt!

Lauren and I went to the house and watched a couple of movies with Olivia, and then I went and dropped off laundry at the laundromat place.  Back at the Barn, I read for a while, and then, as is becoming tradition, Lauren, Anderson, and I went to eat.  Afterwards, we went to the house to play a couple of card games with Carla and two Filipina teachers.  Upon my return to the Jungle Barn, I showered and killed my first roach here.  In fact, I can still see it laying on its back in the bathroom from where I'm typing this on my bed.  I'll get it eventually...

Maybe there will be school tomorrow.
